Mailchimp newsletter popup
The newsletter popup is provided by Mailchimp. If you submit that popup, your email address and signup information are sent to Mailchimp for Beyond the Known subscriptions. Mailchimp’s script also receives technical information when it loads and may use cookies or similar technologies according to the form settings. See Intuit’s privacy statement. Newsletter emails include an unsubscribe link. Popup subscriptions are separate from the early-interest register described below.
Previously collected early-interest records
The retired early-interest form stored your email address, the time of signup, your consent record, whether you requested book updates, and the signup location (for example, the book page). The consent text covers future Beyond the Known emails. The form does not ask for your name, payment details, or account credentials.
The old register is closed to new signups. Email delivery and address verification are not active. Addresses collected through the early-interest form are not automatically transferred to Mailchimp. Before campaigns start, address verification and a working email unsubscribe process must be configured.
Where the information lives
Older early-interest records are held in the website’s managed database. New popup subscriptions are held by Mailchimp. There is no public subscriber directory or public export endpoint. Site administrators with access to its hosting account can manage the records.
Removing a request
The old form provided a private removal link after signup. Keep it: opening that link and confirming removal deletes the signup associated with a valid link. The secret part is kept in the URL fragment and is sent to the site only when you confirm removal. It is not included in pageview counts.
If your email was already registered, a later submission does not replace its original removal link or preferences. Use the link from your original signup. Without that link, this version does not provide self-service email ownership verification or recovery. This limitation applies to old register records, not the Mailchimp popup.
Optional Google Analytics
If you allow analytics, Google Analytics 4 uses cookies and technical information to estimate visitors, returning visits, traffic sources, devices, approximate geography, and engagement. We also measure article scroll milestones, time with the page visible and focused, and clicks to our book and newsletter pages. Scroll depth and focused time do not prove that a person read or understood the text. We do not send newsletter email addresses or form contents through our custom analytics events. Google advertising signals and ad personalization are disabled.
Google Analytics loads only after you choose Allow analytics. You can decline, or change your choice using Analytics settings in the footer. Declining stops this integration; withdrawing an existing choice clears its accessible analytics cookies and reloads the page. It does not delete historical reports. This choice controls Google Analytics, separately from the Mailchimp popup described above. See Google’s privacy policy. No session recording service is installed.
Basic traffic counts
The site counts page loads by page and date. These counts do not contain your email, name, a persistent visitor identifier, or a browsing profile. They are approximate pageview totals, not verified unique-reader or book-sales measurements. These basic counts are separate from the third-party Mailchimp script described above.
Abuse prevention and hosting
To limit automated signup attempts, the application temporarily stores a hashed request-network identifier, a request count, and an expiry time. Old rate-limit entries are eligible for removal after 24 hours. The hosting service may separately process technical request logs and access information required to operate or protect the website.

Future changes
If email delivery, analytics, or other data handling changes, this notice needs to be updated before those features are activated. Joining this list does not authorize unrelated promotional campaigns.
